This faculty was established on 1^st of August 1996 and at present is the largest faculty in UPM with a total of 557 academic and support staff under 23 departments.

This faculty organizational structure is most unique among all Public Universities in Malaysia where the two key areas of Medicine and Health Sciences under one administration are the natural strength of this faculty that serve as the prestigious Research and Learning Center to generate the development of new generation of human capital with high performance.

As a faculty under the Public University with the status of Research University in Malaysia, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) offers quality undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in the field of Medicine (Doctor of Medicine) and Health Sciences (Biomedical Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health, Dietetic, Nutrition and Community Health, and Nursing).

The FMHS, UPM academic programmes are quality programmes with recognitions from the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). In addition, the Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Occupational Health) program, has been accredited internationally by The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, United Kingdom. Currently, the Faculty is constantly striving to gain more recognition for other programmes including the recognition of clinical and medical scientists in the field of research.

In the field of Clinical Medicine, in addition to the number of appointed clinical specialists, this faculty is able to provide tertiary medical services by experienced and certified clinical experts in their respective field of expertise. There are a total of 7 specialists in the sub-specialty of Internal Medicine, 5 specialists in the sub-specialty of Orthopedic Surgery, 5 specialists in the sub-specialty of Pediatrics, 3 specialists in the sub-specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 6 specialists in the sub-specialty of Surgery and other specialists in sub-specialty of Ophthalmology, Psychiatry and Anesthesiology. These faculty clinical specialists provide clinical services at the Hospital Serdang (Teaching Hospital) and work with experts in the field of Microbiology, Pathology and Radiological Imaging. FMHS UPM also offers expertise in the field of Community Health by specialists in Family Medicine and Community Medicine. All FMHS clinical specialists are certified and registered with the National Register of Specialties or better known as the National Specialist Register (NSR).
