Master of Medicine (Radiology)

OVERVIEW

Master of Medicine (Radiology) is one of many offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Experts in the field of radiology is indispensable in hospitals, institutions of higher learning and private sector. This program is offered in UPM with aims to produce more radiologist to meet the needs of country that is still too low.

The increasing demand for radiology specialists is expected to increase significantly because of the increasing use of sophisticated technology. Clearer and accurate diagnostic imaging can provide a newer information for the diagnosis of the patients. This makes the role of radiology more relevant. The increased use of interventional techniques in diagnosis and treatment of patients is a need to have more radiologists.

In addition, the need in the career advancement of the medical officer in Malaysia will only be available with the existence of more specific training opportunities in areas of expertise. The increased numbers of radiologist and academics in the field of Radiology wil facilitate in meeting the needs of the country.

 

CURRICULUM STRUCTURE

Phase I : Year 1

  • Learn the basic theory of medical science of radiology and radiological physics
  • Undergo practical training in various modalities in radiology

 

Phase II : Year 2 and Year 3

  • Study the intermediate and advanced radiological physics theory
  • Learning the theory of clinical radiology by organ system
  • Continuing practical tasks as clinical radiology apprentice
  • Studying the research methodology, good practical biostatics methods and medical ethics
  • Conducting a research project

 

Phase III : Year 4

  • Served as a radiologist in training
  • Prepare and present the report of dissertation initiated in Year 2
  • Learn the management and the relevant legislation and quality assurance programs in radiology

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students must have appropriate qualifications from a university recognized by UPM:

  1. Have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS or MBBCh) or other equivalent diploma medical doctor from the University Putra Malaysia or any local or foreign university recognized by the Senate.
  2. Working experience of at least three years after obtaining a medical degree and have completed basic rotations as required by the Ministry of Health.
  3. Students must be registered with the Malaysian Medical Council and have a valid Annual Practicing Certificate.
  4. Students must be aged of not more than 40 years.
  5. Students from abroad are required to meet the conditions as follows:
    • Fluent in English and have a minimum score of 550 for TOEFL or 6.5 in IELTS.
    • To submit relevant documents (Doctoral Degree Certificate, Certificate of Full Practice and in the state of origin, the support of Supervisors, the sponsor) for verification and revision of the university and the Ministry of Health for Annual Practicing Certificate meantime.

 6. Fulfill all other requirements set by the university and MOH     Malaysia (for MOH's officer only)
