Research

Family medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is a specialty in breadth that integrates the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences. The scope of family medicine encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system and every disease entity. All the academic staffs are actively involved in researches. The department members hold several grants and collaborate with other agencies including other universities, Ministry of Health and Clinical Research Centre Kuala Lumpur for research. The field of researches are mainly in primary care medicine or Family Medicine. These include researches in Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Chronic obstructive Airway disease, Breast Cancer, Methadone programme and others. The full detail of research projects by department members are as in the attached. Some of the department members are research associates to the Institute of Gerontology and MAKNA laboratory.

Our research focus: Our department support, conduct and disseminate practice-based primary care research that improves health care and benefits the health of patients, their families and communities. Hence, all of our department members are engaged in practice-based research to advance knowledge and provide optimal health care to all.
