Problem Based Learning : Cases for Medical Students is a compilation of clinical cases that were discussed during Problem Based Learning (PBL) Session, Pre-cilinical Phase of Doctor of Medicine Program. The writing of the cases has been designed to suit the learning objectives as well as to enhance the students' understanding and the critical thinking. It will serve as a reference text for lectures using PBL approach and for medical students for final and professional examination's preparation.

(1) PYREXIA OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN
A 34-year-old Indonesian man presented with high-grade fever for 3 months.

(2) DIARRHOEA ALLERGY

SK, a 4-year-old boy was brought by his parents to a general practitioner with complaint of recurrent diarrhoea for the past 6 months.


(3) BONE PAIN

A  19-year-old university student who presented with a 6 month history right knee pain and swelling following a fall sustained during a football match.


(4) A FEATHERWEIGHT CHILD

A 2-year-old malay boy was referred to a paediatric clinic for poor weight gain.


(5) INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS

A 50-year-old malay lady, presented at the outpatient clinic of Hospital Serdang with complaint of fever of 3 weeks duration.

(1) Dysentery
A 35-year-old businessman presented with bloody stools of two weeks duration

(2)Dysphagia

A 44-year-old man presented to the outpatient clinic complaining of difficulty in swallowing for 2 weeks.


(3) Puffy Face

A 3-year-old Malay boy presented to Hospital Serdang with the complaint of facial puffiness of four days duration.


(4) Leg Swelling

A 10-year-old boy was presented to the emergency department with complaint of pain and swelling on his right upper leg for the past 10 days associated with high grade fever. There was no history of trauma. No other significant medical or surgical history.


(5)Abdominal Swelling

Mrs. X, a 48-year-old Indian lady presented with abdominal distension for 2 months to the district health clinic.


(6) Weakness of Limb
Mr MS a 48-year-old businessman was brought to the Accident and Emergency Unit of Hospital Serdang after he experienced weakness of the limbs.

(1) Weight Gain
Mr A, a 60 years old Malay man presented to a health centre with marked increase in weight over 6 months’ duration. He also complained of bilateral knee pain.

(2) Vomiting
A 7-year-old Malay boy presented to the Emergency Department of Hospital Serdang with five episodes of vomiting.

(3) Bruises
A 3-month-old boy was brought by his parents to the Casualty Department for extensive bruises and haematoma over the right thigh of one day's duration.

(4) Child With Fits
A 4-year-old boy was brought in by his family to the Accident and Emergency Department of Hospital Serdang following a fit.

(5) Crystal in The Joint
Mr. K, a 50-year-old Malay businessman, presented to the clinic with a complaint of right ankle joint pain for three days’ duration
