GRANTS AND GRANT APPLICATION

1) Types of Grants
Grants are identified as Major Grants (Geran Utama) or External Grants (Geran Luar)

Major Grants are from

  • Ministry of Higher Education (e.g. FRGS, ERGS, PRGS, LRGS) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (e.g. E-Science, TechnoFund)
  • University grants (RUGS initiative 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7)

External Grants

  • Public/Government agencies (e.g. Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health/FELDA/PORIM)
  • Private Bodies (e.g. MAKNA, Kuok Foundation, Nestle)

2) Guidelines and Forms

Before applying for grants investigator should read guidelines and obtain application forms from the relevant websites.

  • ISO documents (http://www.reg.upm.edu.my/spk_upm)
    • Prosedur PENGURUSAN DAN PELAKSANAAN PENYELIDIKAN (UPM/PU/PY/P001)
    • Garispanduan PENGURUSAN PENYELIDIKAN UNTUK PENYELIDIK (PU/PY/GP15/PENYELIDIK)
  • Major Grants (http://www.rmc.upm.edu.my/site/ver4/download_geran_penyelidikan.html)
  • External Grants
    • Obtain guidelines and forms from individual websites
    • Fill in Borang Permohonan Geran Luar (PU/PY/BR02/GERANLUAR) if official forms not available

3) Submission and Evaluation

  • Major grants

Application forms for all major grants should be submitted to the office of the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation for record keeping and will be forwarded to RMC for evaluation by Panel of Evaluators.

  • External grants

A copy of application form should be submitted to the office of the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation for record keeping.  The application form should be submitted directly to sponsor for evaluation.

4) Approved Grants

External grants
A copy of the grant approval letter must be submitted to the office of the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation for record keeping.

5) Grant Monitoring

Research Progress Reports should be submitted using the relevant forms.

  • University Grants

Progress should be reported twice yearly, latest 10 January and 10 July of each active year.  Report should be filled in Borang Laporan Kemajuan Penyelidikan (PU/PY/BR09/LKP) and Borang Laporan Output Penyelidikan (PU/PY/BR15/OUTPUT) for any output.

  • Other Major and External Grants

As above or;
Use specific forms provided by sponsors for progress reports at the agreed upon time frame.

Research Progress Report will be presented and evaluated by a panel at the PTJ level, yearly.
