Human leptospirosis is an emerging zoonotic disease and has gained attention because of its increasing morbidity and mortality. It is caused by a spiral bacterium called Leptospira sp. acquired via urine of an animal carrier primarily rodents, though other animals are also involved, especially wildlife animals, livestock and domesticated animals.
