Introduction
The Community Health Department was established to carry out teaching and research in the field of community health in various geographical settings, whether rural or urban. Activities are carried out with the focus on identifying factors that influence disease occurrence and ill health among groups in the community. Apart from that, the activities are aimed at preventing health problems from spreading through community participation.

In implementing programs and activities, the Department adopts an approach that perceives life of a community, which also includes the health of its members and which is essentially influenced by every aspect of life itself; in total includes the physical, social and cultural environment. Present day community health is not only directed at disease only, but that it has evolved rapidly to include wellness. Therefore community health has to be seen as something holistic and integrated.

In attempts to understand community health various issues and areas of services have to be investigated since the health of individuals and communities is influenced by collective behavior, attitudes, and beliefs. So are the consequences, are collective in nature and not only affect the individuals. In recognizing that any community-based activity changes with the technology and social values, approaches and strategies that are used to meet the Department’s objectives have to be appropriate with particular time and situations.

Since 1st June, this department has been headed by Dr. Hejar Abd. Rahman who replaced A. P. Mohd. Yunus Abdullah who headed
the Department for 6 years.
