JKPP Volunteer Program 2016 Program “Volunteers JKPP 2016" was held in Pusat Jagaan Mahmudah Malaysia on October 16 2016 where the center is located in Semenyih, Selangor Darul Ehsan. The center consists of mainly elderly residents who have no family members and it has been operating since February 2016. To date, there are 35 residents who have different backgrounds. A total of 54 students from Year 1 of Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Occupational Health) accompanied by three lecturers from the department have been together on the ground to ensure the success of the program at this time. For your information, this is the second time such a program run by the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM in this center. The first program was held in March last year. The objectives of this program are (i) to expose the students to the life of the residents who are not capable of taking care of themselves after leaving the hospital, (ii) to foster volunteerism and cooperation among the students and (iii) to strengthen their communication skills while interacting with the residents of this center which consists of different backgrounds. Activities were carried out during the program including cleaning outdoor areas and in nursing care facilities, trees planting and had lunch together. In addition, they were singing and dancing as well as had active interaction between the students and the residents by sharing their life experience. Hope that this program could be continued in the future and be accompanied by other faculty members for the common welfare. The organizers thank all who have participated in this the program.
