Doctor of Medicine

INTRODUCTION 

The course consists of a 5-year integrated program based on four themes namely Human, Cells, Community, and Personal and Professional Development. Teaching and learning activities are based on systems of the body and not the traditional segregation of the field of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, and microbiology. The integrated medical program covers the cardiovascular system, digestive system and others, in which incorporates all the relevant basic medical sciences and clinical disciplines.

The curriculum emphasizes on student-centered learning with early identification of clinical experience. The curriculum includes exposure to community and public health, as well as an emphasis on behavioral science, communication skills and professional development. The research methodology and experience is a key component in the curriculum, while comprehensive clinical teaching ensures that students get sufficient clinical experience to become knowledgeable and skilled doctors.

Aims:

  • To produce a trained, caring and competent doctors with sufficient knowledge and ability to work in a team·
  • To entrench a conscientious and compassionate attitude toward the sick and the general public to meet the needs of the individual and the nation·  
  • To inculcate awareness on the legal and ethical responsibility of a doctor·      
  • To inculcate the culture and the importance of continuing medical education for life

CURRICULUM STRUCTURE  

It consists of three phases:

  • Phase 1 - Year 1 and 2 (basic medical sciences)
  • Phase 2 - Year 3 (basic clinical)
  • Phase 3 - Year 4 and 5 (clinical)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

MATRIKULATION (SAINS)

Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.85; and at least Grade A- (3.67) in Biology and Chemistry at the Matriculation/Foundation with one (1) of the following subjects:

  • Physics; or
  • Mathematics;

A minimum of Level 3 (Band 3) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET); and  

or at least a credit at SPM level in the following subjects:

  • English; and

Passed the interview with distinctions.

SIJIL TINGGI PELAJARAN MALAYSIA (STPM)

Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.85; and at least Grade A- (3.67) in Biology and Chemistry at the STPM level with one (1) of the following subjects:

  • Physics; or
  • Additional Mathematics/ Advanced MAthematics; and

A minimum of Level 3 (Band 3) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET); and  

or at least a credit at SPM level in the following subjects:

  • English; and

Passed the interview with distinctions.

ASASI SAINS PERTANIAN 

 

 

Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.75; and at least Grade A- (3.67) in Biology and Chemistry at the Asasi level with one (1) of the following subjects:

  • Physics; or
  • Additional Mathematics/ Advanced MAthematics; and

A minimum of Level 3 (Band 3) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET); and  

or at least a credit at SPM level in the following subjects:

  • English; and

Passed the interview with distinctions.

 

and

The course is not less than 1 year in the same institution that is recognized;

and

The minimum entry qualification is 5B in SPM in each of the following subjects:

  • Biology;
  • Chemistry;
  • Physics;
  • Mathematics or Additional Mathematics; and
  • Another subject in the Certificate or equivalent

 

Additional conditions

Candidates must be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner recognized by theinstitutions; Candidates must pass a screening test for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C to be allowed to enter into the program; Candidates who suffered serious physical or mental illness, chronic illness or sensory impairment are not allowed in this program.
However, candidates are subjected to further examination from a physician before a final decision is reached. Candidates also have to go through a screening interview at the faculty level.

 

PROGRAM GOALS

  • To produce well-trained doctors with well-established knowledge and skills to enable them to serve the people in need and also to the nation 
  • To produce a well-trained doctor trained that is able to perform their responsibilities efficiently and serve the public effectively regardless of the urban or rural settings
  • To produce trained doctor with a positive and caring attitude for patients and the general public
  • To produce well-trained doctors who delivers treatment and disease prevention 
  • To produce a trained doctor who is aware of the legal and ethical responsibilities of a doctor
  • To produce well-trained doctors who adopts the medical culture of lifelong learning activities

 

CAREER

Doctors are compulsory to undergo housemanship for two years after completing their Medical Degree. Doctors will gain full registration with the MMC with pre-registration training post of Medical Officer that was given by the Malaysian Government in the Government Hospital in the last 3 years before being allowed to work with private agencies. After the successful completion of pre-registration, the doctor will be supervised in any facilities such as hospitals, district hospitals, public clinics or private clinics.
